The Adventures of Golden Boy |
 |
| The amazing adventure begins for Golden Boy when he arrives for his first assignment as AR2 for the forgetful Mr. Green; who left his flags in the back of Wankers pick- up last week, and so Golden Boy cheerfully offers the use of his new neon flag set; from his new "starter" package.
Mr Green accepthis kind and the match gets underway and is going splendidly, until the big moment when Golden Boy was called upon to flag for his first off-side. After timitdy putting up his flag for off-side and then not being noticed by the head referee, he was in a quandry, what should he do? Should he stand still as a statue or move into another position? Should he flag again, or shout out "Mr. Green" to get the referee's attention? His whistle? ...They say always carry a whistle when you are on line, just in case, is this what they were talking about? ...What's a Golden Boy to do ?...To be continued after this brief commercial announcement...... |

| ...Golden Boy was frozen! Fixed in Forever.....Golden boy finally figured out that Mr. Green is either half blind or else not paying much attention to his novice AR2: and so he finally resumed his position, even with the second to the last and hustled back and forth, switching hands with the flag and looking sharp, without incident until half-time. When Mr. Green finally and politely asked, "Did I miss anything lads?", Golden Boy felt justified and even compelled to mention the missed off-side flag; a move which would prove to be the first real blunder of his budding young referee career!
After the now-defensive Mr. Green had scolded Golden Boy about not making the flag "pop" when he throws it up, and how he is always listening for that "popping" sound, which he distinctly did not hear earlier, Green proceeded to ignore the able assitant the entire second half, over-ruling his partner on all but the most obvious calls.
Golden Boy had just learned the first lesson in officiating: have the proper equipment for the job. Get the good stuff first time out by purchasing all your gear from The Final Score. A proper linesman's flag should be heard as well as seen. Materials matter as much as visibility in a flag set. Add some "Pop" to your performance with a pair of AR1 flags and Soccer One flag carrying case and protect your projection.
Stay tuned for the further Adventures of Golden Boy.
